Petrol Engine & Electric Motor
How does it work?
- The hybrid battery is ‘self-charged’ by the vehicle whilst driving
- The engine is the main power source
- The electric motor kicks in to provide a ‘boost’ when needed
- The battery can take over at low speeds, and for short distances
What are the benefits?
- Great for short journeys and city centre driving
- No need to charge
- No range anxiety on long journeys
- Improved fuel economy and lower fuel fills
- Reduced CO2 emissions and lower tax and emissions charges
Plug-in Hybrid

How does it work?
- The battery is ‘self-charged’ by the vehicle whilst driving, or by
plugging in to mains power - The electric motor can power the vehicle for longer periods, and at
higher speeds - The engine will automatically kick in if the battery runs low
What are the benefits?
- Significantly improved fuel economy over standard and self-charging
hybrid vehicles - Reduced fuel costs over a conventional petrol engine and self-
charging hybrids - More journeys can be completed on electric-only power
- Regenerative braking technology reduces energy wastage

Electric Motor
How does it work?
- The battery is charged from a mains supply, either at home or at a public charging point
- The electric motor can power the vehicle for long periods, and at
full speed - Your charging indicator will tell you your remaining range, and when to re-charge, just as a fuel gauge in a conventional vehicle.
What are the benefits?
- Very low running costs with no fuel bills
- Typically lower maintenance costs
- Zero emissions and no road tax
- Instant torque and smooth driving experience
- Inexpensive EV servicing
